What we hold, and what we don't
Nobody else publishes this page, which is exactly why we do. Every claim the site makes about a record is bounded by what is below. Where a figure would be a guess, no figure is published.
Fixture list is the league record itself: how many matches the archive holds against how many the published table says were played. Every column after it is a proportion of the matches held, so a field can read as complete in an era most of which is missing. Cup ties are not counted here — a club plays as many as it survives to play, so there is no total to fall short of.
What counts as a match
Senior competitive first-team fixtures. Friendlies, testimonials and reserve matches are recorded separately and excluded from every total. Abandoned matches are held with their status; wartime competitions are marked as such. Shootouts are recorded as draws, with the shootout stored separately.
Seasons the club played but the archive holds no match for do not appear as rows anywhere on the site. The fixture-list column is where they are counted.
When sources disagree
Both readings are kept. Nothing is published as canonical until the disagreement is resolved, and the disagreement itself is shown on the match. 1,156 matches currently carry one, most often over what to call the competition rather than over what happened.
10,867 gaps, and most of them are in somebody's loft
Programmes, cuttings and photographs from before 1960 are what close these. If you have any, we'll scan and return them.
Can you help?
Keep the record’s name, the missing field and the publication reference together. Read how the archive is sourced before sharing material. Contribution uploads are not open.
