Where this comes from

Sources and licences

Nothing here is our own research. The record is assembled from the work of others, cross-checked where they overlap, and every fact keeps a note of who said it. These are the people whose work it rests on.

Reusing this material

This archive is not under a single licence. Each source is held on its own terms, and Down The Den cannot grant more than it was given.

Individual facts — a score, a date, a crowd — belong to nobody. What follows matters if you want a substantial part of the record rather than a handful of results.

Required attribution

These are shared under licences that oblige us to credit them wherever their material appears. That is a condition of use, not a courtesy.

How the record is put together

Where two sources agree, the fact is corroborated and says so. Where one source alone holds it, it says that too. Where they disagree, both accounts are kept and the fact is shown as disputed rather than quietly decided. A fact nobody records is shown as missing, never as a zero.
