1910 · THE CROSSING

From the Isle of Dogs to New Cross

Workers at Morton’s food factory founded Millwall Rovers in 1885. Dockworkers were central to its supporter base. The club had four permanent homes on the Isle of Dogs between 1885 and 1910.

Three moves linked those island grounds; the fourth took the club across the Thames to New Cross in 1910. The move to The New Den came in 1993. The district of Millwall and the Isle of Dogs are not interchangeable names: leaving the island in 1910 did not mean every earlier ground lay in that district.
